Marjorie Pitts has been the Clay County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections since 1999. Margie grew up in northwest Iowa, where she graduated from Estherville High School and Iowa Lakes Community College. Her county government career began in 1973 in the Clay County Treasurer’s office for fourteen years, then onto Solutions Inc. as an application support person for over forty counties in Iowa on programs developed in Clay County. In 1999 Margie looked to fill the vacancy created when the former Auditor Phil Hurst decided to step down and manage the Clay County Fair. During the Special Election held on June 30, 1999, when all other counties in the state were voting on two proposed constitutional amendments, Margie was elected Clay County Auditor.
Marjorie has proudly served in leadership roles in the Iowa State Association of County Auditors, the Iowa State Associaton of Counties, and currently, the Iowa Precinct Atlas Consortium that supports over eighty percent of Iowa’s counties utilizing e-pollbook technology.
Marjorie is married to Chuck Pitts and has three grown children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She enjoys scrapbooking, canning, and entertaining family and friends.
